LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A 68-year-old Las Vegas man died early Sunday morning after being hit Saturday night while jaywalking in the northeast part of the valley.
John Wayne Aveiro died at 2:45 a.m. at Sunrise Trauma Center, according to the Clark County coroner's office. His official cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy.
Metro said evidence and witnesses at the scene indicated that a 2005 Chevy Classic was traveling southbound on Nellis Boulevard just south of East Sahara Avenue when it hit a pedestrian outside of a marked crosswalk as he attempted to cross Nellis from east to west. Aveiro entered the right southbound travel lane and was struck by the front of the Chevy.
Metro officers said they smelled alcohol on the victim. Aveiro was transported to Sunrise.
The two occupants of the Chevy claimed minor injuries and remained at the scene. The accident occurred about 8:10 p.m.
The collision remains under investigation.
