PRIMM, Nev. (KSNV -- The lines to buy Powerball tickets just across the Nevada-California state line were reported to be five hours long today in advance of tonight's estimated $600 million jackpot drawing.

Nick Moreno of Salt Lake City had to drive about six hours before he even started to stand in line.

Why come all the way from Utah and drive through two states that do not have lotteries to buy $2 tickets -- with only an estimated 1-in-175 million chance of slimmest of winning?

"It gives you hope," Moreno said. "All of us work so hard with everything we've been through with the economy. Houses, everything that took a dive ... so it gives you a little bit of hope."

Moreno said he's been holding onto his hope.

"I've been holding onto all my lucky charms since 2008. It's time to put them to work."

As for having lucky numbers, Moreno plays that game as well.

"I've got my lucky numbers that I hang onto. I have a friend of mine that I do with lucky numbers who is no longer with us," he said. "And then I went around to a couple of people in line and got some numbers from. Try to be that Nicolas Cage movie 'The Ticket.' When he shared it (the jackpot) with Rosie Perez."

With the lines long at Primm as Nevada residents made the 45-minute trip from Las Vegas, many ticket buyers opted to drive on toward Baker, Calif., and find shorter lines at various Powerball outlets on the way.

The drawing is tonight at 7:59 PDT.

If nobody gets the winning numbers, the rollover for Wednesday could reach upward to $800 million or more.
