LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The city of Las Vegas has passed a six-month moratorium on marijuana dispensaries to delaying the process further.

News 3's Fatima Rahmatullah caught up with a cancer patient who may never see a dispensary open.

I'd probably be dead in six months if I had to start from sratch and grow," said Jack. "I'd be dead in six months."

The state of Nevada approved the use of medical marijuana 13 years ago but failed to create a way for patients like Jack to actually get the drug.

“Without cannabis I can't eat at all,” Jack said. “There are times where I'm short on cannabis and not been able to eat for a couple of days. I use to weigh 60 pounds more than I do right now.”

The state's solution to the problem is to let patients grow their own but Jack cannot grow his own. He doesn't have the means so he continues to deal with the pain.

“No sleep, no eating, pacing pain crouching places that I can find a position that I can be semi-comfortable in,” he said.

City officials are not saying yes or no to marijuana. They say they need regulations from the state before they authorize medical marijuana dispensaries.

Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman says she sympathizes with patients like Jack.

“To me it needs to be very well regulated so If I'm really, really ill I don't have to run around this whole state quality health approved that's of the same level,” Mayor Goodman said.

Goodman said she's also afraid of those looking to take advantage of loopholes.

“Using our citizens and people that are sick to get something on so they can gauge everybody and make money...the smell of money the smell of green oooh that's powerful,” Goodman said.

An argument many understand, but, for Jack it's a lot more painful.
