LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- The man involved in a crime spree Friday night shot himself when confronted by Metro police.

Danny Wadsworth Jr., 31, killed himself with a gunshot to the head and the death has been ruled a suicide, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

Clark County Undersheriff Jim Dixon detailed Friday's series of events at a news conference this afternoon at Metro headquarters.

Wadsworth took purses from two women at Town Square Shopping Center about 8:15 p.m. He was briefly chased by Metro officers who were using a stolen cell phone in one of the purses to track his vehicle. The chase was stopped when the suspect was driving erratically.

Later, Metro officers found the suspect vehicle exiting Interstate 15 at Sahara Avenue. The car collided with another vehicle and a shootout with Metro ensued.

Metro identified the patrol officers involved in the shooting as Jeffrey Gentry and Bryce Martines.

Gentry, 45, has been with Metro since 1999, and Martines 27, has worked at Metro since 2008. Both officers were placed on routine paid administrative leave while the shooting is reviewed.

Wadsworth was convicted of several thefts and related crimes in recent years.
