LAS VEGAS -- Metro police are investigating a home on the 2800 block of Alta Drive where a man was found dead from an apparent gunshot.

LVMPD patrol officers on Dec. 9 were dispatched at around 1:45 p.m. to the 2800 Block of Alta Drive to conduct a welfare check.

Initial information communicated to the responding units was that an elderly male lived alone and had several health issues.

Patrol officers arrived and were unable to contact anyone at the front door. Officers then went to the rear of the residence where they immediately observed an elderly male inside who appeared lifeless.

They were able to access the home by an open rear door and confirmed the male was deceased.

A preliminary investigation found that the male had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. LVMPD Homicide detectives responded to initiate a follow-up investigation. Evidence suggests the victim may have been burglarized.

The identity of the decedent and the exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with any information concerning this incident is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers by phone at 385-5555 or on the visit the Crime Stopper website.
