LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- One man is dead after a police shooting that began as a barricade situation Tuesday afternoon on the 5400 block of Palm Street.
Metro police were on scene all day to investigate the incident, which started with a call from the suspect telling officers he was going to die today.
A usually quiet neighborhood filled with single-family homes near Palm Street and Hacienda was soon interrupted by gunfire.
Metro police Capt. Matt McCarthy says a man called 911 around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Once officers arrived, police say the man came in and out of a house on Palm Street several times. As a precaution, police closed off streets in the area.
When he came outside the last time, there were police lining up on the street, and he started walking toward them.
Officers saw he had a handgun in his hand, and as he rounded a corner he confronted several officers and fired at them. The officers then returned fire.
The subject then fell to the ground in the middle of the street. He was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.
One Metro officer was hurt in a related incident, but had not been shot.
