NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The battle for the mayor's job in North Las Vegas is getting nasty with the primary less than two weeks away. Earlier this week, we focused on the top challenger, former state Senator John Lee.

Tonight, News 3 Anchor Jim Snyder talks with Shari Buck, the woman who has the job now, and wants to keep it for another four years.

We haven't seen much of the lighter side of Mayor Shari Buck the past few years.

She's been mired in the very serious business of saving a city on the brink of financial collapse.

With what we've all gone through in the past four or five years, everybody is sort of suffering together.

The challenges she's faced in her first term are never far from her mind even while she makes the rounds at opening day for Cheyenne Little League Baseball.

Since becoming a major league pitcher doesn't appear to be in the cards, Mayor is the job she'd like to keep.

"I'm a problem solver and I like to serve and help people and just find common sense solutions," Buck says.

We caught up with her on another stop on the campaign circuit. It was graduation night for the ITT Tech Campus in her city.

She's got experience in education as a substitute teacher, a job she calls one of the toughest she's ever done.
