LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Newly appointed Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald will speak at Saturday’s Disabled National Veterans national convention in Las Vegas.

McDonald will focus on his plans to reform the Veterans Administration. He will speak during the 9 a.m. joint opening session at Bally’s.

The U.S. Senate confirmed McDonald on July 29 to replace Acting Secretary Sloan Gibson, who had temporarily held the VA’s top post since May when Erik Shinseki resigned. The VA has been plagued with complaints about excessive wait times for health care and accusations of records falsification.

Before his appointment, McDonald worked 33 years for Procter & Gamble, where he most recently served as chief executive officer, president and chairman of the board.
