NORTH LAS VEGAS – The North Las Vegas Police Department is conducting its Back-To-School Traffic Enforcement today, targeting dangerous driving behaviors occurring in and around school zones in North Las Vegas.

Today, more than 300,000 students will go back to school. Many of those children must cross dangerous intersections on their way to and from school each day. The department’s goal is to educate drivers regarding their responsibility to proceed safely through these high traffic areas, yield to crossing guards and remain vigilant.

Officers will focus their efforts on drivers who disregard posted speed limits, fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk, pass vehicles stopped for pedestrians, and pedestrians who fail to use a crosswalk to safely cross the street.

These efforts are designed and conducted in conjunction with the statewide "Lookout for Pedestrians Safety and Education" campaign, made possible by a Traffic Safety grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
