Pedestrian killed by auto outside of crosswalk

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police said a 59-year-old female pedestrian was killed by an auto near Durango Drive and Sahara Avenue shortly on Thursday at 5:51 p.m.

The driver stayed on scene and this does not appear to be alcohol-related, according to Metro's watch commander.

The fatal injury SUV-pedestrian traffic accident occurred on Durango Drive, north of Eldora Avenue.

According to the police report, a pedestrian was walking across Durango Drive outside of the marked crosswalk.

A 2009 GMC Yukon Denali SUV, driven by 35-year-old Richard Ochoa of Las Vegas, was traveling northbound on Durango Drive in the center travel lane. The pedestrian crossed in front of the GMC Yukon and was hit.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.

This is the 24th traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2014. At this time, it appears to be the pedestrian may have been at fault.

This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
