LAS VEGAS –
The public is invited to attend a Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
The fair is part of the Mayor’s Faith Initiative, which was established in 2012 after a discussion with 120 faith leaders representing more than 70,000 congregants across the Las Vegas valley. These leaders identified key community issues affecting their congregations including addiction, strengthening the family, job creation, education, homelessness and human trafficking.
Work groups in each of these topic areas have been meeting since August 2012 to move ideas into actions.
Members of the Addictions Work Group, who work in the treatment or recovery area, or have experienced the effects of substance abuse, are coordinating this special event to provide education and resources. A pill “take back” component has been included for anyone wishing to discard bottles of medication.
The resource fair will include special presentations from experts in the field of addictions and a panel discussion of individuals who will share their experiences with heroin, their battle against addiction, long term recovery and a dialogue about those who love them.
