LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- News 3 has obtained a federal report on the patient dumping investigation into Nevada’s Rawson-Neal hospital.

The 50-page report details why the findings from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services support a complaint that the psychiatric hospital unsafely discharged patients.

News 3's Christine Kim has been digging into report and has the details.

From the 164 patients at Rawson-Neal, 30 medical records were reviewed as part of this investigation. It's a sample, but it says a lot.

News 3 spoke exclusively last week to James Brown, one of the 30 psychiatric patients who was part of this investigation.

The report says Brown's psychiatrist gave orders for a follow up on mental health services in Sacramento, Calif., even though he knew Brown was homeless and had no contacts there. It further says the physician acknowledged he was not familiar with the discharge policy.

But the report faults the hospital from the very the top atating RawsonNeal does not have an organized governing body to hold staff accountable.

It notes many of the psychiatric patients received physicians orders that are unclear.

A lack of documentation brom patients receiving medication to how much they need to even the consent forms for that medication.

Each of the problems noted are addressed with a way to correct it.
That includes more oversight, training, and clarifying procedures, particularly for the discharging process.
