WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) today announced that in the coming year, the total number of Custom and Border Protection Agents at McCarran International Airport would be nearly double the current force.

Reid’s office was informed today of this large increase of agents by the Department of Homeland Security. The recent omnibus appropriations bill included additional funding to increase the number of agents.

Reid also spoke with Gil Kerlikowski, Commissioner of CBP, before his confirmation. Reid brought to his attention the lengthy delays McCarran airport was experiencing because of staffing issues and urged him to take a look at it once confirmed.

“For quite some time, too many international travelers have experienced lengthy delays because of staffing issues at Customs at McCarran International Airport,” Reid said. “During the recent appropriations process, I worked to secure funding for additional CPB officers.

“These new officers will shorten the Custom process and allow tourists to use their time contributing to our local economy by spending money and enjoying our wonderful attractions – rather than waiting in line at the airport.”
