LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Stealing from children is an unthinkable crime.

That's exactly what the CEO of the Las Vegas boys and girls club is saying happened after thieves broke in to their building and stole their air conditioners.

A bold crime that News 3's Sergio Avila has been looking and these machines are not cheap.

There was about $26,000 worth of damage done on the roof of the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Robindale Clubhouse, 2980 Robindale.

Someone busted up the units and stole everything of value. The real victims are the kids that enjoy the club.

About 150 kids a day come to the boys and girls club to have fun, hang out and stay out of the sweltering summer heat.

“They went ahead and cut the cable here, cut the chain,” said CEO Ken Rubeli.

Boys and girls club CEO Rubeli says cooling down is tough after brazen thieves broke in and stole three out of their eight air conditioners.

“They clearly knew what they were doing, they ransacked all three units,” Rubeli said.

Rubeli says their game room is a big hit with the kids but currently has no air. It's cool in the morning but warms up as the sun rises.

“Kids are running around sweating it's 109 degrees out and someone is stealing our air conditioners,” Rubeli said.

Tens of thousands of dollars in damage. Rubeli says the community has stepped up to help offering spare units but so far there hasn't been a perfect match.

They're also forwarding all tips they're getting on potential suspects to Metro.

“Here we are doing great work for kids and my first thought was how do we catch the person?” Rubeli said.

Thankfully, the air conditioners that cool the gym weren't taken so the kids can retreat in there.

Once it gets too hot Rubeli says activities are limited to those coolers areas.

“We're struggling through a tough economy too but we're still providing great service to the community and then again to think someone would steal,” Rubeli said.

The boys and girls club did have some security measures to keep people off the roof but as you saw the gate chain was cut.

there are still three working air conditioners so the crews have been scrambling to set up a surveillance system with cameras to further protect them.

If you have information, you can call (702) 253-2802. A $1,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
