LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Location is the key to the future of medical marijuana shops, but potential owners are having a tough time right now figuring out where to set up shop.

Finding the right spot to open a medical marijuana dispensary could be the biggest obstacle for prospective owners.

"It's been somewhat difficult actually. It's very difficult to secure properties," said Al Twainy, a commercial real estate agent who has been helping people wanting a place in the medical marijuana business find a place to set up shop.

"Landlords can pick and choose. They don't need to go with something somewhat controversial," Twainy said.

Some landlords are taking advantage of the situation.

"Buildings are being sold for almost double per square feet then they were previous to this law coming into effect," Twainy said.

Derek Connor is helping those with the medical marijuana dispensary application process. Connor knows the strict zoning laws ahead facing owners.

If zoning wasn’t tough enough, potential owners must also content with the banks.

"Certain banks that hold a note for our clients to overcome simply finding space to put the facilities in," Connor said.

Twainy wonders how anyone can find a perfect location with all the factors and restriction involved.
