LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Next weekend, 35,000 runners will make Las Vegas the running capitol of the world.

They will be here for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

It is a huge event, taking place just seven months after bombs hit the Boston Marathon. This year security is taking center stage in Las Vegas.

Runners will take off from here a week from Sunday and as they make their way down the strip, they'll see added security, especially near the finish line.

As president of the Las Vegas Track Club, Tim Kelly helps organize the marathon.

He has run 24 marathons and says until two bombs exploded near the finish line in boston, killing three people, he's never felt unsafe at a race.

He said this year at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon there will be limited access points for workers and what he calls "an army of people" both in and out of uniform making sure everyone is safe.

He says the 10,000 cheering spectators will also notice changes.
