LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Senator Harry Reid joined representatives from the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce today to call for immediate action on immigration reform.

Senator Harry Reid warns if the House republicans don't vote on comprehensive immigration reform by August 1st, President Obama will take administrative action on the matter.

"We just need to have a vote in the House."

Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid says it's been almost a year since the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

The house has not brought the bill to the floor for debate.

"If we're allowed to have a vote on the bill that we sent to the house, it would pass overwhelmingly," he said.

But Republican leadership prefers to pass immigration reform piece by piece.

In January, House Speaker John Boehner said he doesn't trust the president to carry out a comprehensive reform package.

"You know, it's one thing to pass a law, it's another thing to have the confidence of the American people behind that law as you're passing it," Boehner said.

Sen. Reid had a response for the Speaker: "Here is my offer to the speaker: pass the bill now and have it become a effective when we have a new president. Now that's not my preference, but I accept that because the American people need to know we can get things done," Reid said.

Sen. Reid says the legislation would reduce the national debt by a trillion dollars.

"We have thousands of new people on the border and the legislation even calls for more. As we speak there are drones on the border," Reid said.

There are an estimated 11 million immigrants in the U.S. without legal residency.
