LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Eleven-year-old Vanesa Lara loved to sing Christian music.

“Most children would look at Britney Spears and try to sing like them,” said Vanesa’s brother, Nelson Lara. “She would watch one of the sisters at church in the choir. She would mimic every move that she did.”

Vanesa’s family showed News 3 a video of Vanesa singing at her church this past Sunday.

Her brothers said the song she performed was all too telling of what lied ahead.

“It talks about the journey through life that you live,” said Nelson Lara. “I guess your last day on Earth.”

Just two days after the video was shot, Vanesa died after a sledding accident in Lee Canyon. Her family said it was her first time sledding. The Lara family is now left with only memories.

“My sister, she was always affectionate,” said Nelson Lara. “She never wanted to see anybody sad or angry. She would always try to comfort everybody. For anybody she loved she would draw a picture, make a bracelet, write a little letter and a card.”

Vanesa Lara’s brother, Joshua, showed News 3 a cross she made for him at a time when he was not going to church.

“She said, ‘It's so you can be closer to God,’” he said.

Singing was another way the young girl tried bringing her brother closer to God.

Joshua said Vanesa would blare Christian music at their home.

“She told my mom one time she said, ‘I'm going to put this on really loud so that Josh can hear it … so he can hear it and start going back to church and singing to God again.”

Singing is something Vanesa’s family said they know she's doing in heaven.

They only wish she could be doing it here on earth instead.

The Lara family is in need of some help for unexpected funeral costs they are now facing. To help, an account is set up at Bank of America under 501010049592.
