LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Soldiers and Families First, a volunteer organization made up of local and out-of-town veterans, is an organization that helps veterans with any immediate needs they may have, from rent to food.

The organization held its first post-traumatic stress disorder awareness meeting today at The Salvation Army near Palomino and Rancho.

Director Scott Stalker says he knows first-hand what these veterans and their families are experiencing.

Stalker was diagnosed with PTSD and severe brain trauma in 2007 after returning home from an overseas tour with the Army National Guard. He says it’s been a challenging road for him and his wife to travel.

Many of the veterans they help, Stalkers says, are younger veterans with families who don’t know where to turn.

The organization says it will continue doing all it can to help veterans. Starting in January, it will hold these PTSD workshops every third Friday of the month.

If you’d like to learn more about the organization, you can call 702-327-5474 or visit this site.
