BOULDER CITY — The Lake Mead National Recreation Area Interagency Communication Center received a call at 8:57 p.m. reporting that a plane had crashed near Echo Bay Airport within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The Clark County Fire Dept units responded to the downed aircraft shortly after 9 p.m. The crash was reported to be near the Echo Bay airstrip, which is about 10 miles south of Overton Beach.
Upon arrival, CCFD crews from Station 74 in Overton reported a small aircraft was down in a ravine and on fire.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found two bodies in the wreckage.
The cause of the crash is undetermined, but under investigation. No identities or ages of the deceased are currently available.
Clark County Fire spokesperson said arriving crews were able to see smoke, but had some difficulty locating the plane.
Emergency personnel from the National Park Service, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Search and Rescue, and Clark County Fire Department responded to the scene.
