LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Two people are in the hospital and a third is in custody after a shooting, car chase and barricade event in the northeast part of the valley on Sunday morning.

Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said the chain of events began shortly before 10 a.m. with a shooting at an apartment on Cleopatra Ave (near North Nellis and East Gowan).

Two men fled the scene in a Ford Mustang, but were spotted by a Metro patrol unit. That unit then pursued the vehicle.

A short distance later the Mustang lost control at Timberlake and Clear Lake because of the rain.

The two men fled the vehicle. The passenger ran into a residence on Clear Lake while the driver fled on foot.

McCarthy said the driver showed a firearm to a pursuing patrol sergeant, who shot the suspect.

The man who barricaded himself in the house was apprehended about an hour later by Metro's SWAT unit. Nobody in the house was harmed.

The two suspects in the hospital were not being cooperative, McCarthy said, adding that the events appeared to be gang-related.

The captain said Metro would schedule a briefing within 72 hours to provide any updates and the names of the officers involved.
