(NBC News) That massive wildfire in Colorado is a lot closer to being contained but a new one in Arizona is getting bigger by the hour.

The fire is burning near the town of Prescott in northern Arizona and is forcing homeowners there to evacuated.

And the weather's not helping.

The forecast calls for hot and windy conditions over the next few days.

"So, the fields are dry, it's hot out, it's windy out," said Jeff Andrews who works in the Prescott National Forest.

In neighboring Colorado, evacuees from the massive black forest fire, lined up Wednesday to return to what's left and in many cases not very much.

"Amazing what the heat did to that center I-beam up there just twisted it like a pretzel," said one man looking at the damage.

For Don and Baneal Burgess, everything's in ashes in their home of 35 years including the blanket his grandmother crocheted for him.

"Boy, what i wouldn't give to have that because that, i was about 11-12 years old when she did that for me," said Don Burgess.

"I'm a plumber, plumbing contractor, i got all my tools and all my supplies were in there," said on fire victim who lost his garage in the flames.

Colorado's worst wildfire in history has destroyed more than 500 homes and charred more than 22 square miles.

Fortunately, firefighters have it mostly contained.

"Today's operation, we're continuing to knock the heat out of it, continue to work on getting the last 10 15 percent of containment in there," said incident commander Rich Harvey.

They're hoping to have it fully contained Thursday.

While investigators continue searching for clues to what started the wildfire.

Authorities remain suspicious but haven't elaborated on a possible cause.
