LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) --A southwest Las Vegas family is mourning the loss of their mother. Metro police discovered the woman's body after someone called from her home about an attempted suicide. Police arrived to find the woman's husband threatening to kill himself.  News 3’s Antonio Castelan has more.

Elica Yurkova lives just a house down from where a woman's dead body was found Saturday morning.  Police discovered the body in a home on the 5800 block of Sleepy Spruce Street.

“I didn't hear anything. Something disturbing or anything to make me aware of a problem," Yurkova said.

Metro police were alerted of a problem after receiving an emergency call from the residence where the woman was found dead. The call claimed a man was threatening to commit suicide. Officers arrived and found the man in disarray.

“He was always very friendly,” said neighbor Marilyn Sam. “When he drove by he always waved."

Sam speaks of the man who threatened to kill himself.  Officers took that man to UMC hospital. Neighbors say the man taken for medical treatment just moved in the neighborhood six months ago with his wife.

Husband and wife were known to neighbors as Neil and Karen.  The pair were very talkative.  Just last night Neil told all his neighbors his wife was being honored at the Bellagio today for losing a substantial amount of weight.

“We talked and they say there preparing for a huge party which was today and they were talking to each other what they were going to wear," a neighbor said.

Police are not saying if the husband is the focus of their murder investigation. Neighbors couldn't imagine this man acting violent.

"His smile,” a neighbor said.  “His friendliness. Very friendly."
