LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A special tribute was held today for the Metro officer killed during a rescue mission in July.

The Clark County Commission presented the family of David VanBuskirk with a proclamation for his service and sacrifice in our community.

Vanbuskirk fell to his death July 22 while conducting an air rescue on Mount Charleston.

His wife, Adrianna, along with close family and members of his Search and Rescue team, looked on as commissioners made a proclamation in his honor.

One of the more tender moments was when U.S. Rep. Joe Heck, a personal friend of VanBuskirk, presented his widow with the American flag that was flying above the capitol the day he died.

Representatives for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and U.S. Rep. Dina Titus also made presentations to the VanBuskirk family.

It's just one way, Heck says, to ensure VanBuskirk and his sacrifice is never forgotten.
