LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – The Clark County district attorney’s office has indicted the woman accused of shooting her son in the head on Memorial Day.
Shavon Aguilar, 31, faces two counts of child abuse, neglect or endangerment; and one count each of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon; and child abuse, neglect or endangerment with substantial bodily harm.
Police say Aguilar, also known as Shavon Carrillo, shot her 11-year-old son, Israel, the morning of May 26 at their residence on the 5200 block of Pebble Beach Boulevard, near Vegas and Decatur. Her brother-in-law grabbed the .22-caliber rifle before she could shoot herself.
According to the arrest report, Aguilar told police she was thinking about killing her three children and herself. She was despondent over a failed marriage and unemployment.
“While (Israel) does respond to pain and has some muscular movement, that is expected to be the extent of his revocery,” Deputy District Attorney Pam Weckerly said in court.
Bail was set at $750,000. Aguilar is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. Sept. 8.
Also indicted today was Michael Anthony Corniola on one count of theft. Prosecutors say Corniola took $10,000 worth of merchandise from his employer, REI.
