LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A mortar attack took Timothy Hall's legs in Afghanistan, leaving him with devastating wounds that required major hospitalization and rehabilitation.

While Hall worked to recuperate in German hospitals, his mom was able to stay for free in a Fisher House, which are homes at major military and Veterans Administration medical centers throughout the country. Nevada is the only state with a major military facility that lacks a nearby Fisher House.

The Nevada Military Support Alliance, a non-profit organization created in 2003 to provide financial assistance to families of Nevada military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, needs $3 million to build a Las Vegas Fisher House.

The group has raised $500,000 and hopes to have a house open at the Southern Nevada Veterans Administration Medical Center by 2017, and a weekend fundraiser at the Red Rock Hotel-Casino was held to help meet that goal.

Hall, who routinely makes the five-hour trip from Hawthorne to Las Vegas for treatment, is also joined by his mom. A Fisher House would provide her with housing at no cost, eliminating the financial burden that comes with caring for her son.
