HENDERSON (KSNV – A 27-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle this afternoon while she was attempting to cross Boulder Highway.

The woman was crossing Boulder Highway at Lowrey Street, just north of Lake Mead Drive, when she was struck by a northbound Jeep Cherokee driven by 84-year-old Paul Bennett at about 1:30 p.m.

The woman was crossing at an intersection that had crosswalk markings, and vehicles in two of the three travel lanes were yielding to the pedestrian. Bennett was traveling in the inside lane and failed to yield.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bennett voluntarily submitted to blood testing to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. A preliminary investigation indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the victim’s name after she has been positively identified and her family has been notified.

In 2013, 267 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways. Today’s fatal accident was the sixth traffic-related death in Henderson this year.
