HENDERSON (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Henderson's business community could soon look a bit different as the city opened up more land for sexually oriented businesses on Tuesday night.
Earlier this year, The Love Store – a company known for adult movies, toys and entertainment – applied to move into the city southeast of the Las Vegas Strip and was promptly denied.
While doors aren't opening up, discussion did.
The City Council realized maybe it was time to reopen a 20-year-old zoning statute that limited sexually oriented businesses, adult bookstores and novelty shops to just 197 acres of limited industrial zones. The council added general industrial and industrial park zones.
Some restrictions remain: 1,000-foot barriers from commercial zones and 1,500 from houses are required. Even those limits were not enough for a small handful of residents, who said this expansion was akin to opening Pandora's Box.
Beginning Jan. 1, adult bookstores and entertainment stores will have more access to land.
