LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Explorer Academy graduated 24 young adults this evening in a ceremony at the Cashman Center.

The teenage graduates come from local law enforcement agencies, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, North Las Vegas Police, Henderson Police and Boulder City Police.

This is an annual six-day academy hosted by Metro. The Explorers attend numerous classes, including ethics in policing, emotional survival, radio communications, report writing, basic firearms marksmanship, physical fitness, and more.

Explorers are challenged to perform at their best and uphold a standard of excellence. The program is designed for young adults between the ages of 16 to 20. The goal is to introduce them to a career in law enforcement by matching their interests in four specific areas: crime scene investigation; corrections; dispatch; and police.

The commemorations continue for Metro. On Thursday, the department welcomes 56 new police officers at a graduation ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Showroom at the Orleans Hotel, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
