LAS VEGAS (KSNV — Firefighters make a gruesome discover after being called to what they thought was a simple house fire Tuesday afternoon.

Crews found a body burning in the home's backyard. Metro detectives say they believe a woman may have set herself on fire.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue crews were called to a home around 4 p.m. on the 1300 block of Seal Beach Drive, near North Jones Boulevard and West Washington Avenue.

Streets were closed for several hours while detectives tried to piece together what happened.

The victim, a woman in her 80s, had a history of mental illness.

Police say her family had been looking for her for a few days and filed a missing elderly person report with Metro.

After hours of investigating, Fire & Rescue investigators determined the woman took her own life.
