LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — Metro detectives are working to research mental health as it is a seemingly increased role in police shootings and crisis intervention calls.
The results from this research could lead to adjustments in how Metro officers are trained.
As of last year, officers must undergo 40 hours of training in how to respond to situations that appear to involve mental health issues.
There have been eight police shootings in Metro's jurisdiction this year. One captain says he suspects mental health was an issue in most of those shootings.
