LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a man suspected in a shooting death March 1 outside a convenience store.
Alan Sosa, 18, is facing murder, attempted murder, and carrying a concealed firearm charges. He had been in custody since Wednesday on unrelated burglary charges.
According to a Metro arrest warrant report, the victim, Juan Cervantes, and his wife, Christine Mata, parked at Stewart Market on East Stewart Avenue just after 7 p.m. when a person approached Cervantes and asked for a lighter. Mata continued into the store, then was pulled out by her husband, who said someone had just pulled a gun on him.
Mata and Cervantes left the lot and headed north on 21st Street. Cervantes saw four people on the west side of the street and had Mata pull over the car to call 911. Both exited the car to confront the group when one of them pulled out a handgun and shot at the couple. Three shots hit Cervantes. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at UMC Trauma.
Metro says anonymous tips and social media helped them tie Sosa to the shooting.
