LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers and community activists will conduct an anti-violence rally at 6 p.m. today.

The rally comes after the slaying of 46-year-old Jeffrey Craig Hand, who was gunned down this week in the 2500 block of Lynwood Avenue.

The Stop the Violence rally will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at 2575 Van Patten St. The rally is part of Shield of Hope, which is comprised of LVMPD officers, faith-based community leaders and concerned citizens who gather together for a show of strength in the wake of violence.

Shield of Hope was established in 2012. SCAC has held five just from its area command.

“After an incident like this, temperatures are high and so is fear,” said Sgt. Redell Moore, Community Oriented Policing South Central Area Command. “We are here to empower neighbors and stop the cycle of violence by encouraging vigilance.”

The incident that sparked the rally happened Tuesday evening. A verbal altercation between four men turned deadly after an unidentified Hispanic man pulled out a handgun and shot two others as they attempted to flee.

The shooting was believed to be drug-related, killing Hand and wounding a 49-year-old man.

Police are still searching for two unidentified Hispanic males associated with the incident. For more information, contact Sgt. Moore, at (702) 300-2550.
