NORTH LAS VEGAS – North Las Vegas police invite the community to celebrate National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Hartke Park, 1900 E. Tonopah Ave.

This year's event features Nellis Air Force Base K-9 Unit, Fatal Vision Goggles used to demonstrate the various levels of impairment by Clark County School District, and a blood donation drive by the Red Cross. The event also includes free food, information and entertainment.

National Night Out is a collaborative effort sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of this collaboration.

National Night Out is a community building campaign designed to heighten crime prevention awareness and to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs. It aims to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and to send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The celebration has become a longstanding tradition for the North Las Vegas Police Department and the community.
