HENDERSON (KSNV – Jonathan Ogden, one of the most powerful offensive tackles in NFL history, wrapped up a summer camp for kids in need Tuesday afternoon.

The six-week free program at his UFC gym in Henderson included plenty of exercise, lunch, and life-skills classes.

Kids on Tuesday left with a backpack, school supplies, and a pep talk from professional fighters.

The 2013 Pro Football Hall of Famer inductee said the camp is in its fourth year and is part of the Jonathan Ogden Foundation.

“A lot of these kids are homeless, at-risk kids. It gives them purpose. It gives them a goal. They come in here. We mentor them. We try to build up their self-esteem. We try to just show them that through hard work, one you can have fun doing these things, but it can also take you somewhere,” Ogden said. “We just want to show them that there’s hope out there.”

Ogden also talked with News 3 about what stood out to him in preseason football.

“The hype that (Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback) Johnny Manziel gets is unbelievable as a guy who hasn’t done anything in the league, but outside of that, preseason is preseason,” he said. “Nothing really is determined in preseason.

“We’ll know something in the first three or four weeks of the season, but I know Denver looks good. Peyton (Manning) looks good, as always.”
