LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- An independent report of the Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital report has been completed in the wake of recent patient dumping reports.

The two consultants say some changes are needed and the hospital needs money to implement those changes.

They had full access and spent a week conducting interviews and reviewing policies.

They found several issues, including the need for more non-medication treatments, a lack of patient discharge planning and documentation, and staff feeling pressured to move patients out.

The consultants also found employees were understaffed and underpaid.

State psychiatrists there make about $50,000 less than comparable positions.

Another recommendation is to add 20 positions.

They found a number of positives. Every patient interviewed reported feeling safe and respected. And the consultants say staff members were compassionate and competent.
