SAN FRANCISCO (KSNV – On Monday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear oral arguments in the Hawaii, Idaho and Nevada gay marriage cases. Eight couples from the Silver State will be present for the hearings.

The arguments will begin at 1 p.m. in Courtroom One of the James R. Browning U.S. Courthouse, 95 7th St., San Francisco.

It has been 2 1/2 years since local couple Sarah Geiger and Megan Lanz were told by a federal judge that the state's ban on same-sex marriage was legal.

Since then, 18 states have allowed those marriages.

Nevada officials are not fighting their marriage anymore. The state’s legal argument was squashed by a U.S. Supreme Court decision that says sexual orientation is protected the same as race and age.

While the arguments are only expected to last at the most, two hours, it could be weeks before a decision is made.
