LAS VEGAS (KSNV — A kindergarten teacher accused of harboring a 16-year-old girl at his southeast Las Vegas home returned to court this morning.

Bail for Melvyn Sprowson Jr., 44, remained at $530,000. Defense attorney John Momot argued that the bail was too high, but Judge William Kephart said he was going to keep the bail at that amount because Sprowson, as a teacher, needs to be held to a high standard.

He is charged with kidnapping, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a child and obstruction. A preliminary hearing remains scheduled for Nov. 21.

Clark County School District police sat the girl was found unharmed and in good health after investigators used social media to trace her Nov. 1 to Sprowson's home on East Russell Road.

The girl answered the door when police arrived and said she was at the home willingly. But authorities say she's too young to give consent to live with an adult.

The day before, Sprowson allegedly denied knowing where the girl was.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
