LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — The investigation continues into the death of a 2-year-old girl who was struck by a car Thursday night near Pecos and Lake Mead outside the trailer park where her family lives.
There is a strong sense of sadness throughout the neighborhood where the toddler lived. A neighbor may be shedding more light on the events that may have led up to the incident.
Police say the family was getting ready for dinner when somehow the child got out of the house. Alan Delgado, a neighbor, says there was some type of disagreement between the adults in the home, and the child's mother took off in her car.
"The mother left; she was mad from a family problem. She left in her car, and I think, what I heard was that child got out and followed her," Delgado said.
The driver, Jose Rodriguez-Rios, is devastated, and was cooperative with police. Metro says it does not appear speed was a factor or that Rios was impaired.
Child Protective Services tells News 3 it has an open investigation as a result of this case and assisting law enforcement.
