LAS VEGAS (KSNV — One of the largest steam locomotives ever built arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday night and will be on display until 4 p.m. today.

Big Boy No. 4014 is at the Union Pacific Yard, 1001 Iron Horse Court, near Charleston and Grand Central Parkway.

The historic locomotive is being moved 1,293 miles for an ambitious restoration at the company’s Heritage Steam Fleet Operations headquarters in Cheyenne, Wyo. After departing Las Vegas, No. 4014 will be on display in Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah, during the 11-day excursion to Cheyenne.

Eight of the Big Boys were donated for public display in various cities around the country. They can be found in Pomona, Calif.; St. Louis; Dallas; Omaha, Neb.; Denver; Scranton, Pa.; Green Bay, Wis.; and Cheyenne, Wyo.

Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.
