(NBC News) -- Heavy snowfall arrived around midday in Kansas City Tuesady, with up to a foot set to fall before the day's out.
Much of Missouri and Kansas is bearing the brunt of the second winter storm to hit since the weekend.
Bitter cold is moving in behind the storm, with another week of below-freezing temperatures that will keep what's falling now frozen for awhile.
More than 118 million Americans in 32 states are under some form of winter weather alert as the system moves to the Northeast, where preps are underway for its arrival.
