(NBC News) Search teams continue to scan the flood waters and mangled debris in central Oklahoma, looking for several people still missing after the latest round of severe weather.

"Something like this could go on for several days," says Oklahoma City Deputy Fire Chief Marc Woodard. "We want to make sure we do due diligence and do right by the family until all the victims are recovered."

The violent storm system that ripped apart and washed away communities from Oklahoma through New York has already claimed at least two dozen lives, including a sheriff and a game & wildlife officer in Arkansas who died trying to save two women stranded in raging flood waters.
