HENDERSON,Nev. -- Clark County and Henderson Fire Investigators arrested Michael Brandon Boyd, Jr. Wednesday morning in connection with a June 9 bonfire in a desert area south of Henderson that resulted in injuries to seven teenagers.
Based on numerous interviews with witnesses following the late-night incident and evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe Boyd threw a 55-gallon drum on top of the fire.
Heat from the fire caused the drum and its contents to explode resulting in the spread of the bonfire and injuries to bystanders.
Following today’s arrest, Boyd was booked into the Henderson Detention Center and faces the following charges:
Third degree arson, one count
Mayhem, seven counts
Performance of Act in Reckless Disregard of Persons Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm, three counts
Performance of Act in Reckless Disregard of Persons, four counts
Boyd’s bail is set at $37,000.
Fire officials remind the public that outdoor, bonfires are illegal and pose serious dangers and safety risks.
