LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A man has been arrested and charged in a deadly shooting that took place in a parking lot Monday night.
Police say 22-year-old Jonathan Perez has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a gun by a prohibited person, and the discharge of a gun in a prohibited area.
According to the police, Perez fired his weapon when a drug deal turned into an altercation near Harris and Maryland Parkway on Monday night.
They say he and possibly two other men took off and left a victim dying in the parking lot.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the apartment complex, located on East Harris Avenue, at 7:24 p.m. to investigate multiple reports of shots fired and a man possibly shot.
Arriving officers located an adult male lying on the ground within the complex suffering an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to the University Medical Center Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives said the victim and three other males were engaged in a narcotics transaction when a verbal altercation took place. Shots were then fired, and two of the males left the scene in a vehicle.
Detectives from the Metro Criminal Apprehension Team located the suspect, later identified as Perez, at a residence on Constantine Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.
The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
