LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- This Rip-Off Alert comes from utility companies from all over North America. The warning: Scammers are calling residents, claiming to collect on late bills

They threaten your service will be cut off unless you pay by prepaid debit card.

The Better Business Bureau says scammers are turning to prepaid credit cards because they're difficult to trace and you don't need an id to use them.

To see if you're dealing with a utility scam, watch out for the request for prepaid debit cards.

If you feel pressured to pay immediately, call the actual utility service number on your bill.

And if someone comes to you home, don't allow that person in unless you have a scheduled appointment. Don't forget to ask for proper ID.
