LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Victims say a robocall scam that is sweeping the nation comes to Nevada. In this Rip-Off Alert, an 84-year-old woman was called during the weekend and said a free medical alert system was available for her.

Here's the problem -- her daughter said they already have a medical alert system from another company.

The robocall does say, “If you already have a medical alert system, disregard this message,” at the end of the call -- after you're asked to press a button to accept the service.

By then, consumer advocates warn, personal information could be collected and fees paid. That's a lesson this family learned, after researching robocalls.

“If they push the button, they're going to lose money because these people ask for credit card, some sort of way to get into their bank accounts,” the daughter said.

Nevada's attorney general office says they've received five complaints so far about the calls and they're working with other states to put a stop to robocallers.

The attorney general office also says to be on the lookout for those who call and ask for personal information.

Never provide that information to people who you don't know are come unsolicited.

Ask for their telephone number and hang up.

Look up the company online -- like this family -- and learn if that call is legitimate.
