LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — Bonanza High School product Kris Bryant, the No. 2 overall selection by the Chicago Cubs in the 2013 MLB Draft, is now one step away from the majors.
Bryant, the 2013 Golden Spikes Award winner at the University of San Diego, will report Thursday to Triple-A Iowa of the Pacific Coast League. He was hitting .355 with 22 home runs and 58 RBIs in 68 games for Double-A Tennessee of the Southern League.
Bryant shared the news on Twitter this morning: “Can't wait to join the @IowaCubs tomorrow! Thank you to @smokiesbaseball and all my teammates for so many great memories!”
Bryant, 22, exited his Double-A days in style, capturing the Southern League's Home Run Derby on Monday, hitting 16 homers to win the competition.
