LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Tonight a family is praying their three children will recover after a truck slammed into them at a bus stop.
Metro investigators said around 5:30 this morning two trucks collided at the intersection of Bonanza and Lamb. The impact sent one of the trucks into the bus stop.
Those children are still in critical condition.
The destruction of thw bus stop gives a sense of the magnitude of a Ford 350 truck charging toward a family of four.
The impact sent a Ford truck swerving into two five year old boys along with another two year old boy. The father of the children was not hurt.
Injuries include broken legs, broken arms, injured livers and damage to spleens.
A child's stroller stopped not too far away from the truck. Officers said one of the children was pinned underneath it for at least 30 minutes.
"There's one of the children concerned about,” Trauma Surgeon Dr. Jay Coates who performed surgery on the three children. “We’re not sure how they’re going to do. It is really touch and go right now."
Friends of the family say the father was taking his kids to daycare. Officers said the drivers of a Dodge and Ford truck claim they both had green lights. Both drivers were given field sobriety test and passed.
Police are looking for a possible witness who was driving in a maroon car--that driver left the scene.
Bus riders waiting for their ride weren't happy hearing of another bus stop accident.
"It's a disgrace that you know your loved ones go in the back of these bus shelters, " said one bus rider.
Doctors said only time will tell if the children will fully recover.
"The kids were pretty bad off. Pretty severely injured," Dr. Coates said.
Metro police are trying to figure how who may be to blame and who may have drove through a red light. There is the possibility that one of the drivers could be charged with reckless driving.
