LAS VEGAS -- So, what should you do if you have a flat tire while on a freeway?

Tom Hawley is in the traffic center. Tom, there are some things you can do to make a simple tire change safer.

The Nevada highway patrol will help you out if you're on a freeway, either by providing protection and clearing a safe space for you, summoning a tow truck or mobile repair, or even helping change the tire themselves.

The best option is the Freeway Service Patrol, when it's available. These highway heroes rove many of the freeways in southern nevada specifically looking to help motorists in distress.

They'll change your tires, give a gallon of gas, fill a radiator or whatever it takes.

Best of all, it's free and provided by the department of transportation.
