LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The suspect in a deadly collision with a motorcycle Monday night failed several field sobriety tests, according to an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Francisco Contreras-DeJesus, 41, of Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of felony DUI causing in death.

According to witness reports, a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by Contreras‐DeJesus was traveling northbound on Pecos just after 6 p.m., attempting to make a left turn onto Hacienda Avenue on a blinking yellow arrow.

The victim, identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Ian Arche, 40, of Las Vegas, was riding a 1999 Honda CBR southbound on Pecos approaching Hacienda and a green traffic signal. The Ford made the left turn, failing to yield the right of way, which caused the motorcyclist to lose control.

The victim was thrown from the motorcycle and slid underneath the Ford. He was transported to Sunrise Trauma and pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Contreras-DeJesus told the Metro officer that he was heading home from work and did not see the motorcycle. The officer asked him whether he had been drinking; Contreras-DeJesus said that he had “one or two” 32-ounce containers of beer.

After a Spanish-speaking officer was summoned to assist, Contreras‐DeJesus submitted to field sobriety tests, failed and was arrested. He is scheduled for a 48-hour court appearance Wednesday morning.

This collision was the 28th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014. The case remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
